SOUTH32 LAUNCHES COMMUNITY FUND TO SUPPORT CHARITABLE WORK IN SOUTHEASTERN ARIZONA
Mining and metals company South32 has established a community fund to support charitable
programming in southeast Arizona. Up to $150,000 in grant dollars will be available through the South32 Hermosa Fund over the next year for qualifying local non-profits whose work directly benefits the people of the region. The average grant size is expected to be between $5,000 and $10,000.
“Being located in a community and being part of a community are two different things,” says South32
Hermosa President Pat Risner. “One of our core values is to strive toward the latter, finding meaningful ways to be a good neighbor and raise the quality of life where we operate. We really look to the people living and working in the community to define what’s meaningful to them.”
Three grant cycles are scheduled to occur between now and May of 2020. Supported areas include
education, environment, health and welfare, recreation, civic enhancement, and arts, culture and history.
South32, a globally diversified mining and metals company with offices in Tucson and Patagonia,
acquired the world-class base-metals Hermosa Project late last year and will give preference to
organizations within the project’s home county of Santa Cruz. However, applicants in the surrounding
counties of Pima, Cochise, Graham, and Greenlee are also encouraged to apply. The first application
deadline is June 14. For more information, visit www.commongrantapplication.com.
The South32 Hermosa Fund is held by the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona and its
geographic affiliate, the Santa Cruz Community Foundation, which share a guiding principle to honor
the rich diversity of local communities and promote equal opportunities for all people.
