Upcoming Engagement Sessions

Representatives from Santa Cruz County, Nogales, Patagonia, and South32 (the signatories) are working to develop a Community Protection and Benefit Agreement (CPBA) for the Hermosa project. Through focused working sessions, the group is creating an agreement that ensures the project is developed, operated, and closed with sustainable protections and benefits for the community.

The CPBA signatories hosted public listening sessions on March 17 (in Patagonia) and 18 (in Nogales). Feedback received during these sessions and on the CPBA website indicate that residents would like to have more engagement, particularly in the form of smaller group discussions focused on topics of specific interest.

Based on this feedback, the signatories plan to sponsor limited attendance, topic-specific groups of interested parties on 3 topics on June 16 and 17 (time and location tbd):

  • emergency services,
  • nature-based restorative economic development, and
  • education

If you are interested in participating in a particular topic session, please visit https://cpba-hermosa.org/ to express your interest and find additional information. Due to the need to keep the groups to a limited size for productive dialogue, the signatories will select interested participants by consensus from those invited as well as others interested. These groups are intended to provide an opportunity for individuals seeking to work collaboratively and in a solution-oriented spirit.
