Meet Javier, Surveyor at Hermosa! He joined our team almost two years ago, bringing operations expertise both as a surveyor and mining engineer technician.
Before joining the mining industry, Javier held different roles within construction and after a few years he wanted to try something different. When a surveyor role opened at his previous company, he gave it a try and found his real interest. He says, “It was an opportunity that I wasn’t expecting, and I ended up really liking it.”
Working at Hermosa was always in Javier’s plans. Being from Nogales, he heard about South32 from friends and family. In 2021, he applied to an open position with the core shed team and was made an offer, but he was not able to accept at that moment. Two years later, he saw the position for Surveyor open and didn’t think twice. Since then, he has been a part of our team.
Currently, Javier supports different departments at Hermosa as a Surveyor, where he measures land and boundaries, creates maps and plans, ensures legal compliance, and provides data for projects. When describing his experience at Hermosa, he mentions, “The culture is what I most enjoy, since day one people have welcomed me with open arms.”
Since 2019, Javier has been working toward his bachelor’s degree in business administration, which he had not been able to finish until this year. He mentions his role at Hermosa has provided the support and flexibility he needed to continue his education, “I had taken a lot of breaks, and now I was able to finish my education.”
There are no boring days for Javier as he considers himself an outdoors person. When he is not working, he enjoys activities such as hiking, biking, and fishing alongside his friends and family.
