Christine Johnson, Facilities and Travel Specialist 

Meet Christine, our Facilities and Travel Specialist who joined Hermosa over eight years ago! Through the different challenges and transitions, she’s been able to adapt and grow her career.

Her journey started before South32, when the project was still part of the previous organization. When she first joined, she oversaw administrative work as a receptionist, and over the years, she took on new responsibilities and was able to switch roles as an Executive Assistant for four years. As she learned new skills, and supported different departments, she was able to work her way into the facilities department, which she is now a part of. 

As a Facilities and Travel Specialist, her responsibilities include supporting the development and construction of new facilities, managing utilities, vendor relations, and ensuring facilities follow South32’s global standards. 

For Christine, growth has been at the heart of her career: “You have the opportunity to grow in your role or grow into other roles.” For her, the ability to develop her career has been one of the most rewarding parts of her journey. 

She admits she had some hesitations about joining the mining industry at first: “I was a little hesitant about working in mining, but when I saw that you can do it in a respectful and responsible way, I was excited to be a part of that.”

Beyond her career, what truly motivates her is the impact Hermosa will have: “I understand what it’s like and I know the huge changes that this project can make for people that live in Santa Cruz County, and not just present, but for generations.”  

When she’s not managing facilities, you’ll find Christine at any community event, from book fairs, festivals, and volunteering at her church. She’s passionate about giving back and enjoys spending time with her community, friends & family.
