Seventeen years ago, Ken stood on a piece of land with a vision – to start his own business in Rio Rico. Since then, with the help of his wife Fay and business partner, he has been able to build Rock & Roll Roll-offs, a well-known dumpster rental business in Santa Cruz County.
Their main service is dumpster rental or how others call it “roll-offs”. Today, three full time drivers keep dumpsters running smoothly at all their locations. Ken oversees the company, while his wife Fay manages finances and administrative work. Most recently, their grandson Levi joined the company after graduating from college and is gradually taking on more responsibilities.
Their work at Hermosa started long before South32 acquired the project. A few dumpsters were up at site, but that number jumped once the project became South32’s. After becoming an official vendor in 2019, they were able to provide dumpsters not only for South32 but also our contractor companies. Currently, Rock & Roll Roll-Offs has 32 dumpsters total including contractors.
“We appreciate that South32 has made a priority to work with local vendors since day one.” Ken said, “I even have a friend who is also a vendor with South32.”
Rock & Roll Roll-Offs continue to expand its work with South32 in different ways, and they’re proud to do so. Most recently, a new scrap metal recycling program led by Levi picks up scrap copper and copper wire at Hermosa. Through this program, South32 retains 30% of the proceeds which are then donated to local nonprofit organizations supported by the Hermosa Community Fund. The first collection raised $3,700. With construction increasing over the next two years, future collections are expected to generate more for the community.
“We are very grateful to continue our relationship with South32” Levi said, “It’s all like a reinforcing wheel. If they do good, we all do good and the better we’ll be able to serve our vendors and community.”
Rock & Roll Roll-Offs also provide one-time services to individuals. From house demolitions to backyard cleanings, they’re happy to expand their business to the rest of our community.
